SEAMAN, Ohio — It's a throwback to the 1950s, even if it's only been around for 23 years.
Cruisers Diner, off Highway 32 in Seaman, makes its burgers today the same way it did when it opened.
- The diner has a unique challenge that gives a plate of food for free if you eat the whole thing in 40 minutes
- Vice President Joe Biden visited the diner several years ago during a campaign stop
- It hosts a number of cruise-ins and car shows to raise money for various charities
And it opened because some thought there wasn't a good place to eat in the small Adams County village.
“There's some local guys, I guess they just decided there wasn't no place really good to eat around the area, so they decided to get the diner,” said Leann Lewis, the diner's general manager.
Lewis has worked at Cruisers since it opened.
“The people and I love to cook," said Lewis.
Lewis loves making desserts, especially the coconut cream pie.
Just about everything at Cruisers is homemade.
Some like the chicken and dumplings —a special on Thursdays. Others like the fried chicken or breakfast items.
There is a challenge at the diner, however. It's called the “Hubcap Challenge.”
“It's three one-pound burgers and a large chili cheese fry and a milkshake. And if you can eat in 40 minutes, it's free," said Lewis.
If you can't, it's about 30 bucks.
The diner has table seating and counter seating and holds about 60 to 70 people.
Roughly 15 people are employed at the diner.
Vice President Joe Biden visited the diner during a reelection campaign stop in 2012.
Cruisers also hosts a number of cruise-ins and car shows to raise money for various charities.
