CLINTON COUNTY, Ohio — Kristin Jackson had no idea that some drumsticks, a yoga ball and a bucket would change her life.
- It’s called Cardio Drumming, but you don’t have to be a drummer to do the workout
- One participant says after a year of doing it, she lost 94 pounds
- Cardio Drumming classes are available in Blanchester, Wilmington, Morrow, and Mason, in the greater Cincinnati area
“I never thought I could do this... just never thought it would happen,” said Jackson. “I thought I was gonna be that fat person for the rest of my life.”
She says a friend told her about this different kind of cardio workout, where there’s no running and no weights —just makeshift drums.
“I thought it was one of those things where you’re gonna go sit down, beat on the drum... no, no it’s not that, I was so sore,” said Jackson.
The coaches add in dance moves, foot work and squats to make you break a sweat.
“I generally lose between 5- 600 calories every class,” said Sarah Mitchell, coach.
Sarah Mitchell started the class in Clinton County two years ago.
It has since grown to four greater Cincinnati cities, with classes full of people who’ve never drummed before.
“There’s no talent required, all you have to do is want to sweat and have fun,” said Mitchell.
And they say it’s working.
One year later, a diet, and cardio drumming, Jackson says she’s down 94 pounds.
And she is now helping to coach the class that changed her life.
“This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, so hopefully it’ll change somebody else’s life,” said Jackson.
