PARMA, Ohio — Alberto Salazar says he’s living his dream of opening his own Puerto Rican restaurant, and, so far, it’s been getting rave reviews.

  • Empanadas Latin Street Food is located on Ridge Road in Parma
  • The Empanadas range from $2 to $3, depending on the fillings
  • They make all types of empanadas — even a Polish version

“These are phenomenal… I got to a lot of different restaurants, but these, by far, are the best in Cleveland and I’m not saying that because I’m holding it in front of the store… I’m actually saying it ‘cause they are delicious,” said Jeff Merced, Parma resident.

“I think it’s kinda cool… it expands the food for everyone and it’s authentic and you can tell they cook with a lot of passion,” said Dr. Dale Case, Parma resident.

Just a few weeks ago, Jennifer Quinones and Alberto Salazar opened Empanadas Latin Street Food on Ridge Road in Parma.

The couple’s restaurant is bringing some Latin spices to the area.

Different flavors with Puerto Rican seasonings inside the empanadas,” said Jennifer Quinones.

Each day, the staff is cooking the ingredients that go into the empanadas.

Each empanada shell is stuffed with the filling of your choice, then it’s placed in the hot oil, and then they come out — hot, flakey and delicious.

The Empanadas range from $2 to $3, depending on the fillings.

And they’ve got all types.

“We stuff them with steak, we stuff them with pastrami, stuff the, with sweets, stuff them with veggies,” said Jennifer Quinones. “We even did a Polish empanada... Polish Kielbasa, kraut, potatoes, pepper and onions.”

This empanada spot has become very popular since its opening, so it’s probably a good idea to call ahead.

“In the matter of 3 weeks, we had to hire 20 people, because we did not expect the boom that we’ve been having, so we are working 24 hours a day,” said Jennifer Quinones.
