MONTGOMERY, Ohio – City leaders and partners of a mixed-use development project broke ground on Montgomery Quarter this week.
- The new development, called Montgomery Quarter, will be on the southern end of the city's Heritage District.
- It's expected to create more than 1,000 jobs.
- It will include 170 luxury apartments and condominiums, restaurant and retail space, a boutique hotel, 260,000 square feet of office space, and parking
The $130 million project is described as one of the city's largest developments in its more than 200-year-old history, according to Assistant City Manager Tracy Roblero.
“We anticipate there will be approximately 1,300 jobs from the Montgomery Quarter,” said Roblero.
Montgomery Quarter will include 170 luxury apartments and condominiums, restaurants, retail and office space, a boutique hotel, and parking.
The city's goal is to attract new residents, but also offer upscale living for current residents of Montgomery.
“And it's all right on the gateway to our city, that will provide a nice complement to our Heritage District,” said Roblero.
Montgomery officials started planning for this project nearly two decades ago. Finally, through various partners, land acquisitions, and financing – ground was broken Thursday. The first phase of the project is expected to take two to three years to complete.
Roblero said the project is the biggest Montgomery has seen in decades.
Part of the project will include more than $7 million towards a roundabout at the end of Ronald Reagan Highway that dead-ends on the city's southern edge at Montgomery Road.
“It is a transformational interchange project that will make traffic more efficient and a free-flow of traffic and much safer situation for motorists and pedestrians alike,” said Roblero.
The 21-acre site that will house the Montgomery Quarter project has sat vacant for years, according to Roblero. It has previously housed car dealerships and a nursery.
Now, it hosts the future for Montgomery.
