MOGADORE, Ohio — From the outside it's one of the most recognizable blimps — it's what's on the inside that we don't get to see too often.
- For the first time, Goodyear is partnering with Airbnb for three one-night stays for this week only
- Three couples will stay inside the blimp's gondola for $150
- The stay comes complete with a football lounge, a lakefront spot featuring a grill, fire pit and tailgate essentials, and a cozy airship to unwind in after a fun filled day
But this week, that's about to change.
"The lifting gas we have in the airship is helium and it takes about a day to initially fill the airship with helium," said Jerry Hissem, chief pilot, Wingfoot One.
At 246 feet long, Wingfoot One, also known as the Goodyear Blimp, sits inside a 80,000 square foot hangar in Mogadore.
"It has enough endurance to stay up for 25 hours or so," said Hissem.
Chief Pilot Jerry Hissem has been flying the blimp for 22 years.
He spends more than 7,000 hours in the airship, making it his second home.
And for this week only, he's opening his home away from home to three lucky couples.
"We'll be here at the hangar to have a couple of guests with us each night, two guests a night," said Hissem.
For the first time, Goodyear is partnering with Airbnb, for three one-night stays to commemorate the blimp, which later this year will become the first non-player or coach to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Six people will stay inside this gondola for $150.
To stay in the hangar and to see the airship in the hangar is a great experience," said Hissem.
The stay comes complete with a football lounge, where guests can relax, watch football and play games, plus a cozy airship to unwind in after a fun-filled day.
Outside the hangar —a lakefront spot featuring a grill, fire pit and tailgate essentials.
"They have TV, food and beverage, we have bath, shower facilities for everybody, so it should be a nice stay for them," said Hissem.
Again, the Goodyear Blimp is available to stay in this week only through Airbnb.
All three nights are already booked.
Six people in total will be staying the night inside the Goodyear Blimp.
