TROTWOOD, OH -- Trotwood was one of the areas hit the hardest by a tornado Monday night, three days the later the clean up effort is well underway. “

In the Trotwood area alone:

  • 59 Homes Destroyed
  • 140 Deemed unlivable
  • Thousands still without power

“It just took the roof right off like somebody had just drew it that way. I mean we couldn't find a 2 x 4, a rafter, nothing out in the back.” “I just looked up at my house and I was like, man this place is destroyed.” said local resident Wayne Johnson.

Trotwood resident George Garnes said this about his home: “I think its a total tear down, we’re going to have to rebuild.”

“Its a lot deeper and its a lot worse than I could have imagined prior to going through this.”

In Trotwood alone, 59 homes are destroyed, 140 deemed unlivable and thousands are without power according to the city manager

But they are not alone, as volunteers flock in to help.

“We really just want to be here for them and be here for our community, it's very emotional to look at these homes that we drive by every day and see them the way they are right now,” said volunteer Megan Moore.

The city and school district are partnering up, using buses to shuttle over 160 volunteers into areas in need-- making a big impact on those who lost so much.

“When I pulled up and saw that my yard was cleared it was just oh my gosh it was truly overwhelming and they were still here it was just nice to be able to hug people. It's amazing to see people come together at a time like this and we definitely need it” said tornado victim Stephanie Hunter.

“There is still a lot to be done so the City of Trotwood says they’ll continue to bus people out here to volunteer and help all of those affected for the next several days.
