CANAL WINCHESTER— It wasn't that long ago that the UK-based BrewDog opened its first American brewery just outside of Columbus.
Today, the craft brewer boasts three bars and two breweries around the capital city— and the world's first brewery hotel.

The concept is tapping into the hearts of craft beer lovers from all over, who don't even have to leave their room for a cold pint.
Michael Hudgens has been working at BrewDog hotel in Canal Winchester since its inception this past August.
The hotel is a first of its kind—offering 32 unique rooms connected to the sites two breweries.
And it’s not just the concept that takes people by surprise. It’s the entire atmosphere from the minute they step foot into craft beer paradise.
“My favorite part about this job is seeing people walk through the door and their jaws just drop when they walk in for the first time…you can tell a first timer pretty easily…they’re not expecting to see anything like what they’re met with, I mean every single direction they look there’s something stimulating and interesting to look at. It’s all craft beer-related and at the very least it was all craft made.” said Hudgens, front desk/bartender.
Rooms are equipped with two beer fridges— one offering brews from all over the world and the other, exclusively BrewDog originals, conveniently located next to the shower.
There’s also a beer tap in every room if you want an unlimited supply.
While those beers cost about $4.00-$5.00 a can, there are some perks you’d probably want to take advantage of.
So what kind of clientele does a brewery hotel typically attract? Manager Amy Schwarzenberg says she sees a lot of familiar faces.
“We have a ton of people that are local that stay at the hotel, they live down the street and they wanna stay here, so they stay the night…we’ve had a lot of that," said Schwarzenberg. "We also have people from all over the world that know the BrewDog brand so they come here to see the newest addition to the family.”
One of those BrewDog fans is Logan Meriweather, who lives in Florida but has family in Columbus.
He and his girlfriend discovered the hotel while at BrewDog in Iceland.
“We were just scrolling through and all of a sudden I see a picture of a hotel that had just opened connected to the brewery and I thought, what?... oh my gosh and we’re beer lovers so we thought it was so cool to stay in a brewery that’s a hotel," said Meriweather. "You look right outside the window and you see the casks right outside the door, you can walk to the bar in the hotel or you can walk over to the brewery and have a bite to eat….and we were sitting there in the middle of Reykjavik freezing our butts off and we were like, what? That place is so cool! So we decided to plan a trip here so that my girlfriend can meet my parents.”
A trip he says won’t be their last.
“My family reunion every year is in August in Columbus and we’ll probably stay here and drive to Columbus for the reunion and what not. I’ll probably…every time I come to Ohio, I’ll probably stay here if I can,” said Meriweather.
But he’ll have to book it fast as weekends have pretty much sold out through the end of the year.
Prices vary between $162 to $284 a night, depending on the day of week and room you choose.
