CLEVELAND—Cleveland’s Lakeview Cemetery is a popular destination as people take tours to see the unique architecture and some famous gravesites.

Like the FBI’s Eliot Ness, comic book writer Harvey Pekar and famous disc jockey Alan Freed, whose gravesite is in the shape of a jukebox.

One of the most popular sites is this statue—Haserot’s Angel.

It also goes by “The Angel of Death Victorious” and “The Weeping Angel.”

“Its spectacular,” said Peggy Cleary, Cleveland visitor. “I’m a regular here because I like the art work and the trees and wade chapel.”

The statue’s most striking feature is how she seems to be weeping black tears, which pour from her eyes and drip down her neck.

“That particular statue has an appeal to people… it’s somewhat, it is melancholy… it’s also mysterious and spooky to other people. It’s just a great piece of art and a beautiful one,” said Stanislav Zadnik, Cleveland visitor.

The statue is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family.

These “tears” are formed over time, an effect of the aging bronze and weather.

She’s holding an extinguished torch upside-down, a symbol of life extinguished.

Lakeview stretches over 280 acres and many visitors take tours of the cemetery to visit this popular statue.

“I took major close-ups of it...it looked like the angel was crying, it was phenomenal, I’ve never seen anything like it, it was really fun, so we will be back again in the summer when the weather is a little warmer,” said Phyllis Cleary, Cleveland visitor.

“It’s the first time that I’d seen it and it’s absolutely spectacular and it’s spectacular how it’s aged over the years and the Pitina has made it come to life…looks like she’s crying, it’s beautiful,” said Peggy Cleary.

If you are interested in experiencing The Weeping Angel here, she’s not easy to find, so make sure you get yourself a map. She’s in section 9 Lot 14.
