CINCINNATI, Ohio – It's Opening Day in Cincinnati and nobody quite opens the season the way they do in the Queen City.
- Reds celebrate 150th season
- Findlay Market Parade steps off for 100th year
- 182 entrants for annual parade
The annual Findlay Market Parade is celebrating 100 years of existence. This year, 182 entrants marched in the parade.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred was the Grand Marshal.
Other participants included Reds players, Reds legend and Hall of Famer Johnny Bench, Reds radio broadcast Marty Brennaman – who will retire at the end of the season, and many others.
There was something for everyone.
“I like the bands,” said Cincinnati resident Helen Magers. “I like to see the kids, the young people. I was in band when I was in high school and I know how exciting it is to be in a parade.”
Helen and her husband live downtown and have attended the parade over the last ten years.
“We come just about every year. We live downtown so we can just walk over and we enjoy ourselves, go to lunch after... it's a fun day.”
The parade featured first responders, community organizations, and Cincinnati businesses.
Matthew Custis is a Reds fan and decided to take in the parade because of its 100th anniversary.
“Yeah, it's a long time,” Custis said. “It's pretty cool. It's one of the reasons I thought it'd be cool to be down here for this one.”
If 100 years wasn't enough, the Reds will celebrate their 150th season. A new manager, key offseason acquisitions, and renewed energy in the clubhouse have fans excited for the new season.
The Reds and Pirates played Thursday to open the season. Both teams will be off Friday before wrapping up the opening series on Saturday and Sunday.
