CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Mecklenburg County Democratic Party held their 2019 convention Saturday.

  • They elected new officers and discussed the state of the Democratic party in the state
  • The upcoming special election for district nine was also a big topic
  • North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley gave the keynote address

They elected new officers and discussed the state of the Democratic party in North Carolina. One of the big topics is the North Carolina district nine special election.

Constance Green-Johnson and the rest of the Democratic Women of Mecklenburg County have already been working for weeks.

“It’s going to be difficult to get voters to come back out and vote. So, we’re on the ground knocking doors, sending out postcards, making phone calls, millions of phone calls,” she said.

North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley gave the keynote address.

“2020 will be a big year for everybody and it will be an exciting time and any time you have the opportunity to select whose going to serve you, it’s a wonderful, wonderful way to participate in our process,” she said.

The special election for the district happens September 10.
