Cleveland -- For the uninitiated, wine can sometimes be an overwhelming subject.

But Lindsay Smith is working to change that.

“Flight is kind of the place where you can be a novice wine drinker, or you can be an expert wine drinker, or anything in between, and we have things for you,” the owner explained.

Flight Cleveland opened in December.

The space's name is based in part on, you guessed it, wine flights.

There are 12 wine flights listed on the menu.

“In our world, it’s three two ounce tasting pours, which equates to a glass of wine," Smith said. "It’s a really great way to come in and try three different things. Maybe you’re familiar with one of them, maybe you’re not familiar with any of them, but it’s a really, really great way to come and get adventurous with your palate, start getting out of the box of things you’re familiar with, and hopefully learn some things about wine while you’re doing it.”

Each flight comes with a card that gives some context on your choice.

Flight has 29 wines on tap, along with three local draft beers, too.

The bar offers snacks that pair well with the beverages, including olives, dark chocolate dates, and meat and cheese plates.

There’s also a shop offering more than 400 wines that customers can take home or drink at the bar for an additional fee.

“We wanted people to get excited about wine," she said. "Get adventurous with their palates, and get outside of the norms that they normally drink.”

Flight is open Tuesday through Sunday in Cleveland’s Gordon Square neighborhood.
