Ohio - Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan is one of President Trump’s biggest supporters, and he’ll now be able to defend Trump as Democrats take over as the majority in the House and start investigating him.

Jordan (R-OH04) was voted in as ranking member of the powerful House Oversight Committee on Thursday night.

Republicans on the Steering Committee elect leadership.

The decision came at the end of an eventful two weeks for Jordan.

He lost the race to become House Minority Leader on November 14, losing to Rep. Kevin McCarthy 159-43.

He then began campaigning to become ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee.

But a deal was made Thursday night that instead makes Jordan the highest-ranking Republican on the Oversight Committee, which he’s been on for years.

He’ll now be the point person to respond to Democrats on the committee who could investigate everything from President Trump’s finances to his ties to Russia.

Trump was reportedly pushing for Jordan to get the Judiciary Committee position — where impeachment would be dealt with — but it went to Georgia Republican Doug Collins instead.

It’s also worth mentioning that Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH01) was also running for that spot on judiciary, but he’ll instead remain the top Republican on the House Committee on Small Business.
