Columbus, OH -- Whether it's on the basketball court, on the football field or in the classroom, veteran educator and Eastmoor Academy head football and head boys basketball coach Jim Miranda's motor never stops.
And three decades later, his passion remains strong.
- Head football and boys basketball coach
- Taught business for 30 years
- The Ohio State University graduate
Miranda admits finding a home and work balance is tough sometimes, but he credits his support team.
“It takes a lot. You have to have great assistant coaches on both sides, both sports. And I'm fortunate to have some great assistant coaches who work hard and keep things rolling," says Jim Miranda.
Miranda has pulled double duty coaching both the boys basketball and football teams for several years now...but admits some of his most precious years were spent coaching his daughter on the girls basketball team.
He's says its been tough spending so much time away from his wife and two kids, but appreciates their sacrifices.
“You have to have a sympathetic family that appreciates sports and they're willing to sacrifice me. So I'm blessed on both sides," says Miranda.
Miranda also taught business for 30 years and is a graduate of Ohio State University.
He says being a coach and teacher are quite interchangeable and one of the best aspects of his job in and out of the classroom, is watching kids excel.
“Giving them real life situations and teaching them about business is an important aspect. Some people say I'm just as tough in class as I am on the field. You know I coach in class and I teach outside," says Miranda.
Despite all his accomplishments over the last three decades, Miranda is still searching for that coveted first championship trophy an achievement that would add a bookmark to his stellar career.
Players share that sentiment and say they're inspired by Miranda's attitude and work ethic, especially when the pressure is on.
“From camp this was one of my goals to bring him a championship, for me. So it would mean everything for me to get him this," says Senior Quarterback Marquise Laster.
“Everyone is getting into it, they're loving it. If these guys could come home and win a state championship it will be the pinnacle," says Miranda.
