Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield believes it was a calling to serve as mayor. He has been in public service since he was 15, starting as an after school tutor in his neighborhood. Whitfield enjoys serving people and solving problems. 

When asked to describe Elyria in three words, he chose "collaborative, hopeful, and bold." Whitfield shared that he has many hidden talents, including being writing poetry, farming, and cooking.
