Three state agencies are working together to improve the quality of drinking water in Ohio. The Ohio EPA, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio Department of Agriculture all have a hand in the H2Ohio Program established by Gov. Mike DeWine in 2019.
In addition to replacing lead pipes in the state, the program looks to improve farming methods to ensure water remains chemical free.
The Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Brian Baldridge, talked with Mike Kallmeyer about some of the agency’s goals.
“At the end of the day we want to put less nutrients on and grow a better crop,” he said.
Baldridge walked through some of the challenges that communities have faced with their water in the past as a result of farming.
“From the ag community we want to be a part of the solution. And it’s unique, three agencies really teaming up together and looking at different areas that we all improve water quality for the great state of Ohio,” he said.
