Statehouse reporter Anna Staver joined Mike Kallmeyer to take a look at all the changes Ohioans can expect to see as a result of Ohio’s new fiscal budget.

Staver sorted through the budget and pulled out everything Ohioans need to know, including things like an expanded sales tax holiday coming in Aug. 2024, tax free baby products, and free school lunches for families currently enrolled in the reduced lunch program.

New teachers will also benefit from the budget. Staver said the base salary for teachers in Ohio is going from $30,000 to $35,000.

“Now, here in Columbus, virtually everyone in Central Ohio starts out more, this is more small town, rural Ohio teachers that will see this,” she said.

In line with a goal of Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s, nursing homes will be looked at more closely. In an effort to end elder abuse, nursing homes who exceed standards will be rewarded with more money, while places that fall short will be penalized more harshly.

Staver walked through many more aspects of the budget with Kallmeyer, including what you should know if you want to buy a home, smoke flavored tobacco or make a movie in Ohio.
