Election workers in Ohio have less than three months to prepare for an August Special election.

Executive Director of the Ohio Association of Election Officials, Aaron Ockerman, talked about the legislature’s decision to have the election.

“It’s the legislative process. The legislature can change the law at any point. It’s called the revised code for a reason, and they revised it and so we will get ready to go for August,” he said.

The last General Assembly eliminated special August elections, something Ockerman said election workers have wanted for quite some time.

“We’ve always felt that August was not the best use of either our time or taxpayer dollars,” he said.

Now though, they are looking to move ahead and prepare for voters in August. Ockerman said next steps include identifying polling locations and finding poll workers.
