State Representative Jay Edwards (R) is from Appalachian Ohio. He joined In Focus host, Mike Kallmeyer, to talk about food insecurity concerns in that part of the state.
Although there are food banks willing to help families, Edwards pointed out that transportation and getting access to that assistance is a real challenge for people in southeast Ohio.
Edwards also talked about the impact that the economy and good jobs have on the inability to get proper access to food.
"We always say we don't want a handout, we want a hand up, and we are trying to get opportunities to people in southeast Ohio, better paying jobs," he said. "If you have a kid coming to school wondering where his next meal is coming from, all of a sudden education takes a back seat to that child."
Edwards also talked with Kallmeyer about everything southeast Ohio has to offer and the importance of marketing that part of the state as a great place to live and start a business.
