The president of the Athens County Food Pantry, Karin Bright, talked with Mike Kallmeyer about the impact Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has had on Athens County.

She also emphasized the importance of donating and supporting people who are in need year round, not just during the holidays.

Unsteady jobs, health issues, transportation and infrastructure such as broadband are all contributors to food insecurity in Appalachian Ohio.

"I would really like to see systems be put into place that would allow greater economic development," she said. "I am absolutely convinced that if we could get jobs in this area that a lot of these problems could go away."

Bright also shared her personal story of being an Athens County Food Pantry recipient. She told Mike she knows if the Athens County Food Pantry can keep people on their feet, things can get better.
