Ohio Means Jobs offers programs specifically for veterans. Scott Johnson, the Franklin County Job Center Operator, described some of the ways they help veterans find employment.

Veterans can go to their local Ohio Means Jobs center and have a one-on-one conversation with an employee to find out what careers they may be interested in. The job center operator can help veterans translate their military skills into a resume.

“I think the big challenge we have is getting veterans to realize their talent,” Johnson said.

Learning opportunities are also available to veterans as they seek their next career path.

“They don’t have to just settle for the skillset that they have – they may be able to learn some new skill at no cost of their own," said Johnson.

In his talk with In Focus host Mike Kallmeyer, Johnson also discussed how hard it can be for veterans to transition back to civilian life.
