Mike sits down with two Ohio lawmakers to discuss the Ohio Fairness Act as a commemoration of Pride Month.

Mike talks with Sen. Nickie Antonio, Lakewood-D, to discuss the Ohio Fairness Act.

"The Fairness Act is a very simple bill. It basically adds sexual orientation and gender identity to those already protected classes in the Ohio Revised Code,” Antonio said. “This version of the bill adds those items — gender identity, sexual orientation — to the definition of sex that's already a protected class in the State of Ohio.

“Much like the Supreme Court's decision a few years ago, that the Bostock decision that basically did the same thing for employment. In the state of Ohio, the Fairness Act would protect people from the LGBTQ community in housing, employment and the public sphere. Right now, because we don't have these laws on the books or these protections, someone can be fired from their job, denied housing or denied service at a restaurant based on who they are, who their family is and who they love. We know that that's wrong and it's not good for the bottom line in the state of Ohio."

Mike also discusses the Act with Rep. Brett Hillyer, Uhrichsville-R, for his view on the legislation.

"Really, the issue is, with the Fairness Act, it's certainly about nondiscrimination. Nondiscrimination has no business in the workplace or any form of commerce,” Hillyer said. “If Ohio really wants to compete with other states and attract top talent and fill jobs that need to be filled, we need to pass nondiscrimination laws for folks from the LGBTQ community."
