OHIO — Twenty Ohio veterans were inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame with the 2023 class.
In Focus host, Mike Kallmeyer, sat down with three of the inductees to hear more about their journey to the military and how a life of service continued even once they retired from the U.S. Armed Forces.
Congressman Bill Johnson (R) was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2022. He told Kallmeyer that his time in the military shaped the kind of person he is today.
David Scheffler, a U.S. Army veteran and 2023 inductee, felt he was always called to a life of service.
“I’ve always believed that I was given the ability to make a difference and that came with a responsibility to make a difference,” Scheffler said.
Carolyn DeStefani is a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a 2023 inductee.
“When I was young..., duty, honor, country, were just core values that I really wanted to adhere to, and the Air Force spoke to me,” she said.
Purcell Taylor Jr. was also inducted into the 2023 Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame. He told Kallmeyer about his childhood and how a desire to help support his mother led him to the Marine Corps.
“It was very, very tough for me when I graduated from high school," Taylor said. "There was not an ability to just eat."
