FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Ohio — Covered bridges were once a vital part of Ohio’s infrastructure, providing passage over rivers and streams. In Fairfield County, 15 original covered bridges remain.
“That's the most original [covered bridges] in the entire state. At one point, I believe we had 60 bridges here in Fairfield County,” said Jonette Haberfield, executive director of Visit Fairfield County.
Haberfield says people come from all over the world to see the covered bridges. “There are 125 of them left in the state of Ohio so it's a challenge.” Each bridge has its own unique history and story.
If you’re interested in visiting the bridges, there’s an app available from VisitFairfieldCounty.org. If you download it, it will provide you with a map so you can follow the covered bridge trail.
