OHIO — The Lake Erie shoreline across northwest Ohio is one of the best birding areas in North America, especially during spring migration. Peak season is still a few weeks away, but birds are making their way across the state.

The numbers of traveling birds will vary day to day, depending on weather, but diversity over the next several weeks is expected to be very high.

Jason Fallon worked with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources since 2008.

“Basically, the bird migration comes up, starting in the Caribbean and goes all the way up through Ohio. And, very unique in Ohio, they all stop right along Lake Erie before they go across to Canada. There are thousands of birds that you will see maybe only that one time,” he said

Fallon said you should have your binoculars ready.

“Make sure you have your camera because you never know what you’re going to see," he said.
