EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — In response to the devastating fires impacting residents across Southern California, companies are donating millions to the wildfire recovery effort, while others are offering free services or food to those affected and the first responders to thank them for their hard work.

Financial donations

Spectrum announced a $2.5 million donation for wildfire relief efforts. The donation includes:

  • $500,000 that will be split among the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, American Red Cross Los Angeles Region and California Fire Foundation
  • $1 million will be used to support small businesses through the Spectrum Community Investment Loan Fund
  • $1 million will be offered in public service announcements supporting nonprofit organizations involved in relief efforts

Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and his wife, Connie Ballmer, are donating an initial $15 million in emergency funding for people affected by the deadly wildfires. The Ballmer Group announced  the donation in a statement on its website Thursday and listed the organizations and efforts they are providing immediate support to.

The Ballmer Group is also behind the FireAid concert that is set for Jan. 30 at Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum, which is also owned by Ballmer. The concert is in partership with the Azoff Family, Live Nation and AEG Presents.

Google and YouTube are contributing $15 million to LA-area relief organizations, according to media reports Wednesday.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan are making a combined $4 million donation to relief efforts, according to reports.

On Monday, Snap CEO and co-founder Evan Spiegel announced he and his company already distributed $5 million to LA organizations and are planning to donate more.

Offers from businesses

Spectrum says it has opened more than 35,000 out-of-home WiFi access points across SoCal for people to use at no cost.

Hilton and American Express announced they are offering 20,000 hotel room nights at no charge to famalies and individuals impacted by the wildfires across the LA area. Hilton is working with the nonprofit organizaition 211 LA to coordinate the distribution of rooms to those who have been displaced. To be considered for the program, residents need to apply to 211 LA for assistance here.

Slow Stir Foods is holding a fundraiser until March 31, where a portion of all sales will be donated to those impacted by the wildfires. Products are sold at farmers markets in Newhall on Saturdays and downtown Montrose on Sundays.

Red Lobster restaurant will offer $25 off meals for active-duty police officer, EMTs and firefighters in a show of support for first responders battling the area's wildfires. The discounts will be offered at these locations:

  • 22800 Van Owen Ave, Canoga Park, CA 91307
  • 17601 East Castleton Street, City of Industry, CA 91748
  • 3400 W. Century Blvd, Inglewood, CA 90303

Participating McDonald's restaurants in SoCal are offering free Happy Meals through the McDonald's app, with no purchase necessary. The free meals will be available Monday through Thursday.

Gap Inc. brand stores — Several locations are serving as pickup locations for free N95 masks and other essentials. They're also providing additional discounts on apparel for those in need:

  • Athleta – The Pointe, 850 S. Pacific Coast Highway in El Segundo from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Banana Republic – The Grove, 189 The Grove Drive in LA from 10 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Gap – 1931 Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Old Navy – 205 N. Moorepark Road in Thousand Oaks from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. 

U-Haul is offering free self-storage and U-Box container disaster relief program for 30 days across 92 facilities in SoCal to those affected.

Coffee Bean: First responders can grab a coffee or tea.

Joe's Pizza LA: All of its locations are offering free meals to firefighters and first responders.

YMCA: LA-area locations are offering free child care for children of first responders, essential workers and families who have been displaced or evacuated. Limited spaces available. 

Din Tai Fung: Beginning Sunday, the restaurant will offer a complimentary takeout meal to firefighters and other on-duty first responders with a professional ID. Participating locations include Glendale, Century City, Del Amo, and Santa Anita.

The Abbey West Hollywood is offering free meals to evacuees and first responders.
