Power has been restored and the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport is now fully operational after an hours-long outage caused multiple flight delays on Wednesday, officials say.
The Cheektowaga-area outage happened before 4 a.m. and left hundreds of passengers waiting for hours as employees worked to enter information and check bags manually. The airport was functioning on minimal power from a backup generator during that time.
Power is now restored, but the delays caused by the outage could lead to a ripple effect that creates additional delays. A spokesperson for the airport is urging passengers to continue to check the status of flights.
The outage came at a particularly busy time as many people are traveling for the Independence Day holiday.
