COVINGTON, Ky. — President Joe Biden made a special visit to Covington, Ky. on Wednesday to discuss the Brent Spence Bridge. He started his speech by talking about its importance and how it’s one of the most congested freight routes in the country.

“It doesn’t take an engineer to tell anyone in this neck of the woods that the recipe for dangerous accidents, delayed shipments, and a notorious gridlock — you’re looking at it,” said Biden.
The $1.6 billion investment will not only improve the bridge, but also help build a companion bridge.
“That will keep local traffic from competing with those massive trucks and freight,” said Biden. “Look, it means folks here will actually be able to use the bridge again for work, school and emergencies without bumper-to-bumper traffic.”
Ohio political leaders like Sen. Sherrod Brown and Gov. Mike DeWine shared their gratitude for the bipartisan effort to get the funding for the bridge. Other bridges across the country will also receive a part of $2.7 billion devoted to bridges from the bipartisan infrastructure plan.
“Today shows what we can achieve for the region and for our country when everyone works together,” said Brown.
Biden said he is also proud of the teamwork and is looking forward to the outcome of the bridge.
“A bridge that continues to connect different centuries, different states, different political parties,” said Biden. “The bridge is a vision of America I know we all believe in where we can work together to get things done.”
