Columbus, Ohio — Ohio's biggest university is working to address the stigman associated with mental health and athletes.
In a new series, Beyond the Sport, sports psychologist Dr. Chelsi Day at The Ohio State University explains the role sports psychologists play in student athlete's lives and the progress being made.
"About 40% of our student athletes came in for at least one session last year, so we’d love to see that continue to see that grow that it is just something that people do," Day said. "That it is not a big deal if someone sees you walking into our suite. If you’re in the waiting room together, there’s no, ‘Oh they’re here too,’ it’s very much a normal part of things.”
Day works with 14 teams at OSU, including swimming and diving, golf, volleyball, wrestling, baseball and soccer.
