The path went up Interstate 71, getting off at State Route 61 North and then up South Main Street. They then brought Sherrer to the Snyder Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead. Sherrer was hired by the department in 2021. Sherrer died on Memorial Day at the age of 31 after responding to a domestic situation just south of Marengo, according to the Morrow County Sheriff's Office. Sherrer and the suspect, identified as Brian Wilson, 53, exchanged gunfire. Sherrer died from his injuries, and Wilson was in critical condition as of Tuesday. He's currently in custody of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. Wilson has been charged with aggravated murder.

"You know, I don’t even know what to say," Morrow County Sheriff John Hinton said during a Tuesday press conference. "I call him a kid — he was 31 years old. He was a grown man. He always had a smile on his face. Never in a bad mood. He came to work every day. He loved this community, and he loved the job."

Sherrer is the second Ohio sheriff's deputy that was killed this month. On May 2, Hamilton County Sheriff Deputy Larry Henderson died after being struck by a car while directing traffic outside of the University of Cincinnati commencement ceremony.
