MT. GILEAD, Ohio — Morrow County Municipal Court records show a warrant has been issued for Brian Michael Wilson, 53, of Morrow County, for the death of a sheriff's deputy Monday evening.
The warrant is for aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, records show.
On Monday night, Morrow County Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Sherrer responded to a domestic situation south of Marengo along County Road 26. Sheriff John Hinton said in a press conference Tuesday that Sherrer and the suspect, now identified as Wilson, exchanged gun fire.
Both were transported to local hospitals for their injuries, but Sherrer died, officials said. Wilson is still in the hospital, according to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, and is in custody.
“We stand beside Sheriff John Hinton, the entire Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, and the Morrow County community. In addition to investigating this tragedy, as fellow peace officers, we will continue to lend support to our thin blue line family,” said Delaware County Sheriff Jeff Balzer.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The investigation is ongoing. Officials ask anyone with information related to this incident to please contact the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office by e-mail or phone: DCSOdetectives@co.delaware.oh.us or (740) 833-2830.
