ASHLAND, Ohio — Road trips are more fun with snacks, and there’s a spot halfway between Columbus and Cleveland that will satisfy both your sweet and savory lovers.
If you're from Ohio, chances are you've heard of it.
Grandpa’s Cheesebarn is just off Interstate 71 in Ashland. But despite being around for 47 years, there’s a lot of first timers.
Jake Parhamovich decided to stop by for his first time. He’s been driving past it for years on his way to and from his way to college.
The place also gets a lot of repeat customers.
“Used to stop here all the time on the way to my grandparents,” said Quin Kane. His wife Madi adding that the place lives up to the hype.
“Seeing the generations stop as they go, or the families that stop on the way to college. Their kids of grown and now they’re stopping, it’s really fun to get to experience that,” said General Manager Mistie Hray.
It’s a perfect place to get out and stretch if you’ve been on the road for two hours or two days.
And don’t let the name fool you — this place is filled with more than just cheese.
It carries popcorn, trail mix, a variety of jams and jellies, homemade ice cream, jerky, as well as local and cheese from across the pond — as many as 105 different kinds.
They’ve got a deli counter for you to stop and have lunch. But if you’re looking to get back on the road, they’ll gladly cut up cheese and sausages for you to go.
For those with more of a sweet tooth, Sweeties Chocolates is just steps away.
Grandpas Cheesebarn and Sweeties Chocolates are owned by the same family.
