The City of Buffalo is facing a budget deficit "north of $50 million," according to Acting Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon.

Scanlon, who was speaking at the Broadway Market to open the Easter season, says that he is going to need city officials to come together in order to close that gap.

"This is the reality of the situation," Scanlon said. "We're going to need everyone to get on the same page in order to close it."

He also said that possible tax increases could be the key to address the budget gap.

Scanlon is supposed to have a new budget for the Buffalo Common Council by April 8. After the proposal is submitted, budget hearings will be held to discuss the plan.

The new fiscal year in Buffalo begins on July 1.
