COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Crew unveiled a third sensory room at Lower.com Field this week, saying it's part of an effort to help guests enjoy the games in an environment where they feel comfortable.
The new room is called the "Chase Sensory Suite," as it's in partnership with JPMorgan Chase. It's on the east side of the stadium, whereas the two other rooms are on the west side.
The rooms include walls designed by artists with autism, controllable light levels, beanbag chairs and padded seating, and they're all smell-free environments. Columbus Crew said these details help adults and children who may be affected by bright lights, loud noises and large crowds.
There's also bubble and air walls to provide calming sounds, as well as headphones for noise cancellation.
“The addition of a third sensory room makes Lower.com Field an even more inclusive venue and allows families to fully enjoy matchdays knowing they have a dedicated, comforting space within the stadium,” said Columbus Crew Investor-Operator Pete Edwards in a release. “Soccer is for all, and by increasing access to various accommodations throughout the building, we continue to address any potential barriers for attendance so everyone can experience Crew matches and create lasting memories around our sport.”
Some of the items in the sensory suites aren't exclusive to those rooms. Sensory-inclusive bags and devices are also available for any guest or staff member to check out at the Guest Services Center on the main concourse, at the gates and at premium areas throughout Lower.com Field. Each bag has noise-cancellation headphones, fidget devices, communication cards and more.
