VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County’s Community Assistance Division is looking for community organizations to open their doors to hungry children this summer.
The approved sites will aid in the federally funded Summer BreakSpot program, which runs for 10 weeks from June 3 through August 9.
Children who depend on school meals during the year are at risk of missing out on nutrition during the summer months.
Churches, social service agencies, and nonprofits can help provide a safe place for children to eat. According to the county, 61 sites participated last year.
The federal program provides meals and snacks to kids ages 18 and younger in areas where at least 50% of the children are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.
There is no cost to the organization sponsoring the site, according to the county, and free training will be provided.
Applications must be submitted by April 12. If you would like to apply, contact Patricia Hubbard at phubbard@volusia.org or 386-736-5956, ext. 12984, for an application.
