CLEVELAND — Holiday lights still hanging around? Broken extension cord taking up room in the garage? The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is still accepting donations to help its conservation efforts for big cats.

The zoo is accepting broken, non-working strings of lights and extension cords, without any packaging, to be recycled. The program started on Nov. 1, 2024 and runs through Feb. 8, 2025 with proceeds benefiting its conservation program partner Lion Landscapes.

Through its partnership, the zoo is working to help solve human-carnivore conflicts and develop conservation strategies for carnivores in Tanzania.

Lights and cords can be donated at the zoo's main entrance, located at 3900 Wildlife Way, or they can be donated year-round at the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District, 4750 East 131 Street in Garfield Heights.
