KENT, Ohio — Kent State held its Veterans Day service Friday, with university alumna Major Allison Brager invited to be the keynote speaker.

Brager, who has a PhD in neuroscience from the university, talked about the skills she learned at the university that helped her in the military.

She detailed her time working in New York during the pandemic and shared how important mental health is in the military.

"I have lost more soldiers to the invisible wounds of war than to actual war itself," she said.

Three out of four veterans reported experiencing depression in the 2022 Annual Warrior Survey Report. Nearly 80% of veterans reported having trouble sleeping, and 75% reported experiencing PTSD and anxiety.
