COLUMBUS, Ohio — Boone Jenner, a forward and team captain for the Columbus Blue Jackets, had shoulder surgery Wednesday after being injured during an Oct. 4 practice.
Don Waddell, the club’s president of hockey operations and general manager, said in a press release that the surgery was successful.
“He’ll begin his rehabilitation very soon and our hope is he can return before the end of the season,” Waddell said in the release. “His loss will be felt by our club, but we have a strong leadership group in place and players will be given an opportunity to take on greater roles on and off the ice.”
The team’s regular season begins at 8 p.m. tonight against the Minnesota Wild.
It’s been a rough few months for the team that also lost forward Johnny Gaudreau in August, when he and his brother were hit and killed by a car while cycling in New Jersey.
Jenner has been captain of the team since the 2021-2022 season.
The release says he is “the franchise’s all-time leader in games played and ranks third in goals and points.”
