The project is the zoo's largest capital improvement project and will transform and expand the zoo's popular rainforest.

The new Primate Forest will include the "Crosscountry Mortgage Forest Home and three animal habitats: the tropical forest, orangutan forest and gorilla forest.

The zoo says the primate forest will also showcase the impact on global conservation, animal well-being and management, as well as science, education and research.

“It is a challenge, an exciting challenge," said Sarah Crupi, executive director of the Cleveland Zoological Society. "It's an amazing opportunity and it is just an absolute total joy to present this project to our supporters. Our donors know that primate forest will bring well-deserved acclaim to the zoo that they love and draw attention, visitation, and hopefully continued fundraising from the entire northeast Ohio region.”

The expansion is scheduled to open in 2026.
