CLEVELAND — In an email to customers, the Illuminating Company provided an update on its efforts to restore power after storms caused significant outages in northeast Ohio this week.

According to the email, 90% of customers have had their power restored.

“We know this is a difficult time for many of you,” the company wrote. “We truly thank you for your continued patience and understanding, and for the incredible support for our crews in the field.”

It added crews are restoring power to large numbers of people every day and making progress in removing debris to “pave the way for the intricate work required to restore service in the hardest hit areas.”

In the email, the company reminded customers without power to stay safe by using public spaces that offer air conditioning and device charging, avoiding all downed or low-hanging power lines, showing caution when using a generator, using flashlights or battery-powered lights (or being cautious with candles) and keeping an eye out for scammers taking advantage of the situation.

It also directed customers to its online accounts, outage map and said they can text STAT to 544487.
