DAYTON, Ohio — Ohio Task Force 1 has been activated and is heading down south to help with the Hurricane Debby aftermath with multiple other state task forces.

  • The National Hurricane Center predicts Hurricane Debby could hit Florida with over a foot of rain and possibly storm surge between 3 to 5 feet in some areas
  • Ohio Task Force 1 departed late Sunday night and is sending 47 members with skills in search and rescue operations, hazmat, medical, logistics, safety and more

  • Joining Ohio Task Force 1 will be task forces from Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland and Indiana

The National Hurricane Center expects Hurricane Debby to bring more than a foot of rain in Florida and possibly storm surge between 3 to 5 feet in some areas. Additionally, isolated river flooding as well as flash and urban flooding are all possible for parts of Florida through Wednesday morning. 

Ohio Task Force 1 departed late Sunday night and is sending 47 members with skills in search and rescue operations, hazmat, medical, logistics, safety and more. They're also sending two K-9 handlers and their K-9 partners. 

An exact destination for the team hasn't been announced. For now, they're heading to the Atlantic coast for staging. 

Joining Ohio Task Force 1 will be task forces from Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.

Hurricane Debby made landfall near Steinhatchee, Fla., early Monday. It's expected to continue to move into Florida's Big Bend region, then move toward Coastal Georgia and South Carolina. 

Hurricane Debby is the second hurricane of the season and the fourth-named storm this year. It was a tropical storm on Saturday, and strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday.
