CLEVELAND — The Cavaliers have signed Donovan Mitchell to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Sunday.

The team didn't disclose in the release the amount for the contract extension, but the Associated Press previously reported it's a three-year, $150.3 million contract extension.

“Signing Donovan Mitchell to an extension serves as a pivotal moment for our franchise and reinforces our vision and goals for sustainable success,” said Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman in a press release. “Donovan is one of the most dynamic All-NBA players in the league and we couldn’t be more excited that he chose Cleveland and this community to continue his basketball journey. The extension includes a player option for the 2027-28 season, according to the Associated Press. Mitchell, 27, was under contract for one more season.

Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 6.1 assists and 5.1 rebounds this past season, but he was limited to just 55 games because of a left knee injury. Mitchell was slowed by the injury in the playoffs and pushed through before sitting out Cleveland's final two games in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a calf injury.

The Cavs were eliminated in five games by the eventual champion Boston Celtics and fired coach J.B. Bickerstaff a week later.

Since joining Cleveland prior to the 2022-23 season, Mitchell has averaged 27.5 points, 5.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds.
