OHIO — Temperatures aren't just becoming hot for a few days across Ohio. We will be experiencing a prolonged and rare heatwave all week and upcoming weekend. That's at least 5+ days in the 90s, potentially over a week for most in the state.

What You Need To Know

  • A dangerous heat wave is expected to develop and last for most the week

  • High temperatures will approach record levels in the mid-to-upper 90s

  • Heat index or "feels-like" values will reach 100° to 105° at times

What is a heatwave?

A heatwave is at least three consecutive days in the 90s or hotter in Ohio. This is a period of excessively hot weather with dangerously hot temperatures and humdity.

Understanding heatwave criteria is essential for preparedness and response efforts. Stay informed, stay cool, and stay safe during this heatwave.

Records could be broken

Plenty of cities and towns in Ohio will experience temperatures potentially breaking record highs several days next week through even the upcoming weekend.

Our weather pattern

A large area of high pressure set up over the entire eastern half of the country as the jet stream also moves northward. This allows for a huge heat dome to develop.

We won't see the heat dome weaken for a while. Expect our temperatures to remain above average for the next 7 to 10 days.
