DAYTON, Ohio — The importance of mental health came to the forefront for many during the pandemic, with a particular focus on children's mental health. Cities across Ohio continue working to address the ongoing crisis.

In southwest Ohio, construction is underway for Dayton Children’s Hospital’s mental health center. The new building will house 48 beds and will offer an outpatient program.

Congressman Mike Turner, R-Ohio's 10th Congressional District, hopes to help with the funding. Turner requested money from the congressional community project funds to pay for the new facility. 

“This is $2 million that has already in the House competed nationally,” said Turner. “This is a nationally recognized program to be able to achieve this level of funding. And we're going to look at make certain that we can bring this right back here today in Ohio.”

Last year, Dayton Children’s served more than 7,000 patients for behavioral health services. It hopes this new facility will help serve even more.
