Rev. Rosalind Hughes is the director at Church of the Epiphany in Euclid. The church participates in a nationwide coalition called Guns to Gardens, where they host safe surrender events for guns and then turn the guns into garden tools, art or jewelry.

“When you can take something that could otherwise cause death, and turn that it into something that can grow life, being able to participate in that way is a real privilege," Hughes said.

Hughes' church has been hosting the safe surrender events for two years, and they have collected around 60 guns.

“So we provide this service to try and make our community a little safer, get rid of unwanted, unsafe guns," she said. "Maybe they are in a home where there are growing children, and maybe they are becoming a danger to the family.”

Some of the tools and art get sold to help fund more safe surrender events.

The next safe surrender event will take place at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Bay Village on Oct. 28.
