COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine announced Wednesday that 32 local drug task forces will receive more than $2.4 million in grants to support their services.

  • It will help identify high-level drug traffickers, dismantle trafficking organizations and prevent the sale of illegal narcotics to those who deal with substance use

  • DeWine said the funds will also be used to help spread awareness about mental health and substance use, treatment options and overall promote recovery

The funds are from the RecoveryOhio Law Enforcement Fund and will be used to help identify high-level drug traffickers, dismantle trafficking organizations and prevent the sale of illegal narcotics to those who deal with substance use. 

“Illegal drugs harm too many Ohioans every year, and these grant funds will ensure that the state’s drug task forces can continue their daily battle to push back against this scourge," DeWine said in a press release. 

DeWine said the funds will also be used to help spread awareness about mental health and substance use, treatment options and overall promote recovery. 

According to the Ohio Department of Health's latest data, there were 5,210 overdose deaths in 2021, which is higher than the year before, which had 5,021 deaths.
