OHIO — Ohioans have all seen the messages before while driving down the interstates during the holidays.
"Turkey says buckle buckle," or "Visiting in-laws? Slow down, get there late" are among the many messages the Ohio Department of Transportation has posted along major routes to promote safe driving.
This year, ODOT is looking for some new messages and is asking the public for help. If you have an idea, it can be submitted through ODOT's website.
Here's a few things to keep in mind before pitching your message:
- Try to stay within the 51-character limit (17 characters for each line)
- Keep it related to traffic safety — you'll get bonus points if it focuses on one of Ohio's emphasis areas: serious crash types, high-risk drivers and behaviors, and special vehicles and roadway users
- Your submission can be disqualified if it's defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent, harassing, bullying, threatening or unlawful
