Voter ID is an issue that comes up with each election cycle. But, Jen Miller, executive director of the League of Women Voters of Ohio, explained that this year, those voting in Franklin County early “can just use the last four digits of your social. They will ask if you have an ID to check you in.”

For those going on Election Day, Miller said voters have a few more options like presenting an “unexpired driver’s license or state ID with your name and photo. It’s okay if you have an old address as long as it’s unexpired, a military ID with your name and photo or there’s several other options.”

She noted people can also bring a utility bill, a bank statement, a pay stub, or a government check.

While there were some hiccups during the May primary with polling location changes and boards of election had to notify people of changes, Miller said voters should also be on the lookout for changes, regardless.

“It is best practice, even if yours has been the same for years. It is best practice when you’re making your plan to vote that you verify your polling location,” Miller said.

As voters verify their polling locations, she noted that with new districts in both Congress and the state legislature, people will also want to check their sample ballot. This is to help people research the issues on the ballot and the candidates who are not on a voter’s radar.

She said that can be done by checking out a nonpartisan voter guide or “or you can get a sample ballot by going to your county board of elections website.”
