CLEVELAND — Cleveland Metropolitan School District CEO Eric Gordon announced Monday he will resign at the end of the 2022-23 academic school year.
Gordon, who has led northeast Ohio's largest public school district since 2011, said in a video posted to Twitter that it was the right time for a new leader.
“I will forever be proud of the work we have done over the past 11 years at CMSD and grateful for the role each of you has played in the District’s progress that I have every reason to believe will continue in the year ahead,” Gordon said in the video.
He said the reason he announced it so early in the year was to give Mayor Justin Bibb and the school board time to find a successor.
"While the decision to leave CMSD at the end of this school year was not an easy one for me, the time and conditions are right for the mayor and board to identify the next CEO to lead the district’s long-term recovery from the pandemic and to build on the gains we achieved during a remarkable and historic period in K-12 education," Gordon said.
Gordon ended the video by thanking the community and families for supporting the district throughout the years. Gordon did not give a reason for leaving the position.
Bibb thanked Gordon for his years of service over Twitter.
