At the discussion was Robin Brown, who shared that in 1999, her daughter developed lead poisoning at four years old.
She said being at Monday’s roundtable discussion is important as the government invests $55 billion from the bipartisan infrastructure law toward delivering clean water to all American families and eliminating the lead from the nation’s service lines.
“It’s not an easy place as a parent or a family because it doesn’t just impact the child. [It] affects the whole family,” Brown said. “I’ve been invested into this area because of African Americans being the top nationality poisoned by lead.”
Leaders said they are doing everything they can to ensure they educate the community and keep community members up to date about potential sources of lead and how they can keep their family safe from it.
