DAYTON, Ohio — Gilmour Academy’s 3-point shooting launched the Lancers into the state championship game for the first time in 30 years, beating Waverly 58-43.
Behind the 3-point line, Gilmour was seven of 16 in the first half, and 10 of 20 for the game, a huge difference as both teams made 17 total field goals.
Waverly’s Trey Robertson kept it close, with two 3 pointers late in the first quarter to pull within 13-9, completing a 9-0 run. Will Futhe’s basket tied the game up at 20, but then the Lancers scored the final 10 of the first half for a 30-20 advantage at the break.
Gilmour Academy put together a 14-0 run overlapping halftime to build a 34-20 lead.
Brandon Rose was the leading scorer with 21 points. Adisa Moulton II chipped in 14. Meanwhile, Trey Robertson topped the Tigers with 19.
The Lancers fell in the 1992 Division IV championship game to Berlin Hiland, 74-71, and now play for a chance at the school’s first-ever state title.
The Lancers will take on Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary in the Division II championship game. The Irish were winners in the 2021 Division Tournament, beating Gilmour 67-40 in a regional semifinal.
